I actually didn't know about this until my publisher sent it to me, and I didn't think much of it, since it was pretty standard marketing. But since I recognized the magazine as the one my mother got all her recipes from, I passed it along. And was stunned to get a bunch of texts from her bursting with pride and quite excited to share it within the family.
It also put into context about so many things about my journey as a writer this year. When you're out there marketing and doing promo for your books it's easy to get lost in the nitty gritty. To think that you aren’t being featured in select number of places, it doesn’t matter. You forget your book is out there in the world, discovered and read by many who don’t even bother with social media. Because the internet is one of the few places to get feedback, it’s easy to think that’s only way to see how anything matters. That your posts has to get certain number of likes or retweets. Or you have to be the talk of the town. Or that your books covers get part of twitter thread to compare to fancy dresses or birds. Or you make that short list of writers that are always recommended. I won’t lie and say I don’t want any of that, but at the same time I shouldn’t overlook the smaller things because the world is choatic and you should celeberate every little thing you can.
